How to Choose Sublimation Transfer Paper for Polyester Textiles
Choosing sublimation transfer paper starts with your production setup. A useful shortlist should match the printer, sublimation ink, polyester textile and transfer equipment you already use. A roll that looks similar on a quotation may behave differently on your line.
Start with a complete specification
Send your supplier a short production brief before comparing prices. Record the printer model, ink system, fabric composition, transfer equipment and usual production speed. Include the current paper specification if you are replacing an existing supply.
- Paper grammage (GSM), roll width and roll length.
- Core internal diameter and maximum roll diameter supported by the printer.
- Typical artwork, including fine detail and areas with heavy ink coverage.
- Expected order quantity, delivery destination and packaging requirements.
Use GSM as one comparison point
GSM measures paper mass per square metre. It does not, by itself, describe coating performance, drying behaviour or the quality of the transferred image. Ask for samples of the proposed grades rather than choosing a product from its GSM alone.
Check compatibility before ordering
Confirm the printable side and recommended handling conditions with the supplier. Check your equipment manufacturer’s approved media requirements, especially where third-party media may affect support or warranty terms. For an overview of coated transfer paper and print-side identification, see Sawgrass’s paper guidance; its product recommendations apply to its own systems.
Compare finished fabric and delivered cost
Request quotations on matching dimensions, quantities and delivery terms. During the trial, record usable output, handling interruptions and rejected fabric alongside paper price. This creates a more useful purchasing comparison than price per roll alone.
Next step: ask Synndon for a sample proposal with your printer, ink, fabric and required roll dimensions. Confirm availability and final specifications directly with our team.
