How to Run a Side-by-Side Sublimation Paper Sample Trial

By Synndon · Updated

A sample trial is most useful when the comparison is planned in advance. The following checklist is a suggested evaluation method, not a report of Synndon test results. Set your acceptance criteria around the work your customers actually order.

Define the decision before printing

Choose a representative design containing small text, fine lines, solid colors and the patterns used in normal production. Decide which outcomes matter: acceptable color, readable detail, consistent feeding, manageable drying and a competitive delivered paper cost.

Record the baseline

Label the current paper as the reference and assign a separate code to each candidate. Record the printer, ink, fabric lot, paper dimensions, print mode, color workflow and transfer settings. Follow the operating limits and media guidance for your equipment.

Separate substitution from optimization

Begin with a controlled comparison at the established production settings where the suppliers’ recommendations allow it. If a candidate needs different settings, record those changes as a separate optimization trial. This distinguishes a direct replacement from a paper that needs workflow adjustments.

Use a simple trial log

  • Sample code, supplier, specification and test date.
  • Printed length or area and accepted finished area.
  • Observed detail, color consistency and handling issues.
  • Interruptions, rejected output and the reason for each rejection.
  • Quoted paper price, delivery terms and order quantity.

Compare equivalent costs

Convert roll prices to the same unit, such as cost per square metre: roll price divided by roll width in metres and roll length in metres. Keep delivery charges and taxes on the same basis. Then review trial waste and interruptions separately before making a purchasing decision.

A short sample run is an initial screen. Confirm performance over a representative production run before committing to a larger change. Share your trial requirements with Synndon to discuss samples and a like-for-like quotation.
